Chris Bosh played in the NBA for 13 seasons before his career was tragically ended early by a potentially life-threatening medical condition. He played his first seven seasons with the Toronto Raptors before joining the Miami Heat and helping them to four NBA Finals appearances and two NBA championships in his six years there. LeBron James has said he never would have won any championships in Miami without Bosh. A multi-dimensional player who could finish strong, block shots, and hit the three, Chris finished his NBA career with averages of 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 block per game.
Awards and Honors
- Playing for Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas, Bosh led the team to a state and national championship in 2002.
- Bosh was a two-time NBA Champion, winning titles with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013 alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Ray Allen.
- Chris was an All-Star 11 times during his career, receiving this honor in eleven consecutive years from 2006-2016.
- He won an Olympic Gold Medal with Team USA as part of the “Redeem Team”. A documentary of the team’s road back to Olympic glory, after failing to win the gold medal in 2004, was recently produced. I highly recommend it to avid basketball fans.
- Bosh was honored as the NBA Player of the Week nine times during his basketball career. He was also named NBA Player of the Month once.
Points of Interest
- Chris was selected, out of Georgia Tech, with the 4th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors. That draft was loaded with talent and future NBA stars including his future teammates LeBron James (1st overall pick) and Dwyane Wade (5th overall pick). Carmelo Anthony was the 4th overall pick that year.
- Bosh made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2003-04 and was selected to the All-NBA Second Team in 2006-07.
- Miami Heat executive Pat Riley gave Chris one of his NBA Championship rings as he tried to recruit Bosh to the Heat during free agency. Riley said he could return it when they won a championship together in Miami. Well, the Heat won two championships during Bosh’s tenure, but Chris never returned the ring to Riley until years later when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. (see video below)
- A medical condition led to a premature ending to Chris’s basketball career in 2016 at the age of 31.
- In March of 2019, the Miami Heat retired Bosh’s #1 jersey.

In May of 2021 my son Joshua and I attended the 2020 Hall of Fame Induction weekend. The weekend was delayed from its normally scheduled September date by Covid. At the end of the weekend, on Sunday, the upcoming 2021 Hall of Fame class was announced live at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts and many of the players who would later be inducted were there in person for the announcement. We were fortunate enough to be able to attend this event after an unforgettable Class of 2020 Hall of Fame weekend.
When Chris came down from the stage on the basketball court in the Hall of Fame, Joshua and I met him at the bottom of the steps and asked if he would sign our cards. He graciously agreed to sign and even commented on how nice the cards were. The Panini Flawless card that he signed for me is the 2014-15 Panini Flawless Ruby numbered 02/15. Joshua got a similar card signed. On what was an important day for him, Chris Bosh was kind enough to take a moment and make our memories of that day more special as well.
At the 2023 Hall of Fame Inductions weekend we met Chris after the Awards Gala and asked him to sign a card for us. The card I had signed is the 2012-13 Panini Signatures Stars card numbered 18/25. As you can see, this autograph was written a little more quickly than the one from 2021. Still, we were happy to add to our Panini Signatures autograph collections.
Thank you, Chris!
