Tracy McGrady, also known as T-Mac, was one of the top scoring players of his time.  He could shoot the ball from distance and take the ball to the hoop with power.  He and cousin Vince Carter played together for the Toronto Raptors for two years and it looked as if these two young stars had the potential to lead the Raptors to a championship.  McGrady, however, decided to sign as a free agent with the Orlando Magic.  He also played for the Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, and Atlanta Hawks during his fifteen-year career.

Awards and Honors

  • McGrady was a two-time NBA Scoring Champion in 2002-03 (32.1 points per game) and 2003-04 (28 points per game).
  • Tracy was a seven-time NBA All-Star from 2001-2007.
  • In 200-01 he received the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award.
  • McGrady was the NBA Player of the Week twelve times and the NBA Player of the Month four times during his career.
  • Tracy made the All-NBA First Team twice, the All-NBA Second Team three times, and the All-NBA Third Team twice.

Points of Interest

  • Tracy was the 9th pick in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors.  He entered the NBA straight out of high school.
  • McGrady is the cousin of NBA great Vince Carter who was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the 1998 NBA Draft but quickly traded to the Raptors for Antawn Jamison.  They played together in Toronto for two years before McGrady left as a free agent to sign with the Orlando Magic.
  • In one of the greatest individual finishes in NBA history, McGrady scored 13 points in 35 seconds, including a three-pointer with only seconds remaining, to lead the Houston Rockets to victory over the San Antonio Spurs on December 9, 2004.  Watch the amazing video below.
  • Tracy ended his fifteen-year NBA career with averages of 19.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.
  • McGrady’s teams made the NBA playoffs nine times.  Although T-Mac never got out of the first round of the playoffs, his induction into the Hall of Fame certifies him as one of the best players in basketball history.

Personal Autograph Interaction

At the 2024 Hall of Fame Enshrinement weekend, Tracy was in attendance to support his cousin Vince Carter who was being inducted. We were able to get him to autograph our cards shortly before the Enshrinement ceremony began. I love the card and the signature!

Thank you, Tracy!
