Dennis Rodman, “The Worm,” was a defensive specialist who helped lead the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls to a total of five NBA championships. Rodman was a tremendous athlete, a top rebounder, and a player who gave his all on the court. Although not known for his scoring, Dennis could change the outcome of a game with his defense. He was an unselfish player who never seemed to get tired. Dennis was a smart player who studied the opposition, understood rebound angles, and seemed to see parts of the game before they happened.
Awards and Honors
- Rodman won two NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons in 1989 and 1990. Joining him on those Pistons teams were Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Adrian Dantley, Bill Laimbeer, Vinnie Johnson, and Mark Aguirre.
- Dennis also won three consecutive NBA championships with Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and the Chicago Bulls in 1996-1998.
- In 1989-90 and 1990-91, Dennis won two consecutive NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards.
- Rodman was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team seven times and the All-Defensive Second Team once. He was also Third Team All-NBA twice.

Points of Interest
- Dennis didn’t play high school basketball. He was working at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport as a night janitor when he grew nine inches. He went on to play junior college basketball and then star at Southeastern Oklahoma State before being drafted in the second round by the Detroit in 1986.
- Rodman led the NBA in rebounding for seven consecutive years from the 1991-92 season through the 1997-98 season. He earned these rebounding titles with the Pistons (2), Spurs (2), and Bulls (3). His highest rebounding year was in 1991-92 when he averaged 18.7 boards per game for the Pistons. His rebounding abilities were especially impressive considering that, at 6’7″, Dennis was battling against taller opponents much of the time.
- Dennis set a Pistons record by grabbing 34 rebounds in a 110-107 overtime victory against the Indiana Pacers on March 4, 1992. Included in this total were 18 offensive rebounds.
- Scottie Pippen once said that playing with Rodman made it feel like the Bulls were always on offense.
- Known also for his eccentricities, Dennis showed a number of crazy hair colors and designs throughout his career. His body piercings, outlandish clothing, and crazy antics off the court gained him almost as much attention as his incredible talents on the court.
